ABOUT OUR COMMISSION

The Commission in charge of elaborating the Constitution and reviewing other laws as agreed upon by Arusha Accord Peace agreement as set up by Law N° 23/99 dated 24th December 1999 modified by Law N° 26/2000 of November 3rd 2000.

This Commission is composed of the 12 Rwandan Commissioners who were elected by the National Assembly on the 10th July 2000 out fifteen Candidates. When the law setting up, the Constitution was modified and completed by Law No 26/2000 dated on 3rd November 2000.

The functioning of the Commission was given a board made up of a President, Vice President and an Executive Secretary. The members of this Bureau were elected by the National Assembly on the 23rd November 2000. The law States that the Council of the Commissioners is the highest level which makes decisions so that the Commission may achieve its objectives.
